Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy services offered in Boulder, Longmont, Niwot, Colorado

Psychotherapy, or talk therapy, is a way to help people with a broad variety of mental illnesses and emotional difficulties. Psychotherapy can help eliminate or control troubling symptoms so a person can function better and can increase well-being and healing.

Problems helped by psychotherapy include difficulties in coping with daily life; the impact of trauma, medical illness or loss, like the death of a loved one; and specific mental disorders, like depression or anxiety.  Psychotherapy may be used in combination with medication or other therapies.

There are a number of effective types of psychotherapy. Some work better than others in treating certain disorders and conditions. In many cases, your therapist will use a combination of techniques, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectic Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and EMDR.  Couples therapy is also available at Amavi.

How can psychotherapy benefit me?

Psychotherapy focuses on your unique experiences, challenges, and goals. Your therapist works with you to explore your current thoughts and behaviors as well as the likely causes of those patterns.

Psychotherapy is highly individualized. No other person shares your personal history, experiences, needs, and worldview. Psychotherapy serves a foundational role in mental health because it meets you where you are.

How many psychotherapy sessions will I need?

Because your psychotherapy is individualized to your unique set of circumstances, it’s hard to say how long your treatment will last. Your path is aligned with your specific needs and will differ from that of others.

Some patients enter psychotherapy to address a single mental health issue and progress quickly. Other people enter psychotherapy for months or years to help them manage their mental wellness.
