Alexandra Shapiro is a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner student in her final year of Baylor University’s Doctor of Nursing Practice program. Originally from Florida, she earned her undergraduate degree in Health Sciences–Pre-Clinical at the University of Central Florida before moving to Colorado and graduating from Denver College of Nursing.
Her nursing background spans trauma and medical critical care, where she witnessed how mental health struggles can directly affect physical health and recovery. That connection drew her toward psychiatry. She went on to serve as a weekend supervisor and charge nurse at UCHealth CeDAR in addiction medicine, followed by psychiatric clinical work at Boulder Community Health.
Alexandra’s approach begins with listening and understanding the whole person. She believes in holistic, integrative care that combines evidence-based treatment with each patient’s needs, preferences, and goals. She values honest conversations and shared decisions, exploring options together. An ally to all identities and backgrounds, she strives to create a supportive space where patients feel comfortable being themselves, heard in their experiences, and empowered to take an active role in their care.
In her free time, Alexandra enjoys traveling, birding, reading, spending time in nature, and being with her cats and family.
